As I reflect, many things in the world have significantly changed since I started this company on October 1, 1993. It is hard to imagine that in 1993, there were only 623 websites on the World Wide Web and a world without email. (I certainly spoke to clients more on the phone…which was, of course, a landline.) Back then, providing a criminal background check required using a microfiche reader and searching a single subject six or more times to ensure up-to-date coverage. Researching land, lien, or UCC records often meant searching handwritten indexes written in script. A keen eye and huge attention to detail were essential in deciphering these indexes.
